Holiday Office Hours

The office will be closed from December 24 through January 1. If you need pastoral care, please call Karen's cell phone. Voicemails and emails will be checked intermittently but correspondence replys won't go out until January 2. Have a very happy holiday season and try not to miss me too much!

Thrift Shop Requests

  •      Paper Bags With Handles (so we don't have to use plastic)

  •      Children's books

  •      Men's jeans

  •      and- VOLUNTEERS!

If you could volunteer on a one-time basis on either a Tuesday or a Saturday, please let Pam know or call 508 423 - 0544. Sometimes, the linen section needs to be organized, or items need price tags put on (pricing will be done later), and there are always clothes to be hung. Or, you might be available just to be another person in the Thrift Shop if one of the scheduled volunteers cannot be there. Any offer of help would be much appreciated. The Thrift Shop is CLOSED December 24 & 31.

December 26: Please join SouthCoast Lessons at 4 PM for a special Boxing Day edition of Unexpected Soundtracks, the last Unexpected Music event of 2024!

"No Longer Silent” presents historical films from the silent movie era set to live performances of contemporary composed soundtracks. This Boxing Day showing will feature a controlled improvisational soundtrack featuring members of Pebbles of Rain (Jeff Angeley, Steven Brum, and Christian Camarao) and a member of the Jethros (Rick Smith) they’ll be performing under the band name “Likewise, I’m Sure” with a framework of time targeted motifs cycling through free exploration.

The featured silent film is a 1929 feature-length “Man with a Movie Camera” by Dziga Vertov. Both a documentary & a cinematic art piece, it depicts ordinary life in early 20th Century Russian and Ukrainian cities, using complex and innovative camera shots: multiple exposures, fast motion, slow motion, freeze frames, match cuts, jump cuts, split screens, Dutch angles, extreme close-ups, tracking shots, reversed footage, stop motion animations and self-reflexive visuals. The film is an exploration of the modernity of the cities and simultaneously of modern art. Vertov creates a compelling film that intentionally exists beyond the structure of a narrative arc wherein the cameraman, the camera, and the cities themselves exist as the only recurring or central characters.

Sponsored by the New Bedford Local Cultural Council and Mass Cultural Council.
