We just want to express our thanks for the enthusiastic return to church after the summer break! The positivity and excitement are so amazing and we hope to keep this momentum going through the rest of the year.
UU Climate Justice Revival
These kinds of events don’t happen often, and we’ll be part of the national conversation moving our climate work forward. It’s exciting just on the face of it, and the day itself is looking like a lot of fun. To plan, we need you to RSVP to this event ASAP. We have received a $600 mini-grant from the UUA for food, supplies, and to pay the facilitators.
September 28, 2024 - Interactive workshops
September 29, 2024 - Worship followed by an advocacy hour
All of us will learn new frameworks at the intersection of climate and justice and have the chance to weave together the threads that have always linked our deepest commitments.
The UU Climate Revival will equip us to enter into a new era of climate action—one that intentionally and faithfully breaks down silos and cultivates relationships that lead to flourishing collaborations that transform our congregations through climate justice. Rev. Gretchen Weiss to Give Sermon on September 22, 2024
We are thrilled to welcome Rev. Gretchen Weiss to our church on Sunday, September 22. Rev. Gretchen Weis has been a UU minister for 10 years. She recently retired from Murray UU Church in Attleboro, where they named her the Minister Emerita.
The title of her sermon is: Finding Heart, Despite the Headlines
"Where is the good news? Media stories of violence, cruelty, conflict, controversy, and just plain nastiness seem to dominate the headlines. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed, anxious, and despairing. Here is your invitation to find hope and heart in the midst of so much sorrow, divisiveness, and negativity in the news today."
Upcoming Services
UUNB 's Little Free Library
After a little hiccup this summer with shipping delays, our Little Free Library is officially open! I applied for a grant from Little Free Library over the summer, and since we are considered a high-impact community, we were approved. We received the book box, the post, a big box of books from Thrift Books, and a bundle of diverse reading materials for all ages. UUNB is now the only location of a Free Little Library in Downtown New Bedford. Just one more way we can give back to our community. A Huge thank you to Tony for installing it !!
I hope to have a more formal ribbon-cutting soon! - Jessica
About Little Free Library
LFL's mission is to be a catalyst for building community, inspiring readers, and expanding book access for all through a global network of volunteer-led Little Free Library book-exchange boxes.
Their vision is a Little Free Library in every community and a book for every reader. They believe all people are empowered when the opportunity to discover a personally relevant book to read is not limited by time, space, or privilege.
Registration is not required, but the event page will give more details.
